"We are going to like our house so much more after all of this is done, we won't want to move anymore."
That's what my wife said after spending all day on Saturday checking off to do list items to get our house ready for pictures and showings in the next month. She then followed it up by saying, "Why did we wait to do all this stuff?
I laughed about it for a second, then realized she was right. I felt more comfortable in my home and the space I lived in since I had first moved in. The walls had been closing in because of all the stuff we had accumulated and the honey dos I have avoided over the years.
I wondered if all of my clients felt the same way. It's kind of like the big reveal in the home makeover shows or the decluttering shows, the look of amazement on everyone's face is priceless.
We have actually been doing quite a bit to get our home ready for the market and following my own advice by addressing The 5 Top Buyer Turn-Offs. We have decluttered, rearranged furniture, I had a Revive Curb Appeal touch up done for my front and backyard and we have painted quite a bit.
The thing that struck me most by the realization was how long we have been living in a "state of pause." Why did we wait to do these things and live in the house as if it were staged every day. I feel so much better sitting, well, anywhere in my house now because we have done those things. We have lived in this home since 2009 and I am just now getting to that thing I wanted to do when I moved in...?
How many things do we put off in our daily life, that if we just took the hour to make the change or fix the thing we want fixed it would make a huge change to our quality of life?
The reason I was living on pause with my house was the list seemed overwhelming and I didn't have the energy after working so hard all day, all week, to spend my whole weekend or evening decluttering my closet, or landscaping my backyard, etc. All the while I suffered from not having the organization I wanted and the nagging feeling that I had unfinished business each day.
We use #stoplivingonpause to help us recognize when we are settling for less in our lives and challenge us to stop accepting things as they are. Our team consistently challenges the status quo we accept to improve our lives and help us achieve our future visions for ourselves and others.
