Selling a house isn't a fun process. In fact, there is almost nothing fun about it. It's emotional, nostalgic, messy, cluttered (why do we hold on to so much stuff), and stressful. The hassle of getting a house "ready to sell" is enough to make you rethink everything...and, oh by the way, where do we want to live next?
The thought of moving is exciting and stressful at the same time. As we were going through the decision making process, I wrote this article for others as I was learning in my own experiences.

Hopefully, it's on your terms and at the right time, but even when it is, change causes stress. Whether you aremoving to your first house, a bigger house, downsizing your previous house or relocating for a new job. You are entering a transition in your life.
Enjoy the decision you have made. Part of the stress that accompanies change is a failure to appreciate the gigantic accomplishment you’ve already made by making and acting on whatever decision has lead you to reading this guide. Seriously, its a big decision. Here are a few tips to positively manage change:
- Be Positive. Change is inevitable - Embrace it with a positive attitude.
- Be Educated. Gather the right information - Speak with those with experience. Find out what’s coming next and make a plan you believe in.
- Be Flexible. Roll with the Punches - Work through your options, write out a plan. Change, “I wish things never changed…” to “________ is happening now. What are my options and how do I make the best of it?”
- Be Consistent. Focus on areas of your life which are not changing - The consistency will bring familiarity and peace as your work through the changes.
- Be Empowered. Do something - Don’t sit back feeling like a victim, take some control, make some decisions.
